At Shaw Preschool, the classroom is a cheerful, happy place. Kids will feel like they are playing all the time, when in fact, they are learning social and classroom skills necessary for success in Kindergarten. Each day, our children will engage in all kinds of hands-on activities. The fun learning activities will be carefully designed to help build confidence, instill self-esteem, encourage self-expression and develop social skills.

This year will be filled with fun learning activities to keep the curriculum, focused and fun. We believe in having a structured curriculum, where learning takes priority, with joy and fun being an integral part of each lesson. The curriculum will include stories, listening, following directions, sharing, learning, and writing letters, color identification, learning and writing numbers, science, exploration, art, computers, and our special focus is to have each child learn to write their name. Furthermore, physical education, dance and creative movement will also be an integral part of our program.

In addition, this year will feature monthly themes, weekly topics and daily activities to keep the daily lessons new, exciting and challenging. We will have field trips and guest instructors throughout the year and we will put on a Christmas program as well as a spring graduation program.

We are excited about learning and we love children. We will give children a well-rounded preschool experience to prepare them for the challenges of Kindergarten.

Registration fee for all students: $50.00

TEACHER BIOGRAPHIES

Jana Shaw:
Jana is the director and owner of Shaw Dance and Preschool. She has a Bachelor of Science in Dance and English Education from Utah State University and has been teaching for over 25 years. Jana has a Utah Teaching Certificate and has a Highly Qualified Status.

Eileen Anderson:
Eileen has been teaching at Shaw Preschool for the past four years, and has attended BYU and Weber State University. She has 16 years teaching experience and has also worked two years with a speech pathologist implementing speech therapy for preschool age children.

Shelly Nay:
Energy and enthusiasm for learning are just some of the qualities Shelly brings to Shaw Preschool. She has been teaching with us for the past five years, and is currently attending the University of Utah, pursuing a degree in Communicative Disorders.

Suzette Stewart:
Creativity and artsy projects are part of what makes Suzette such an excellent teacher. She has been teaching preschool at Shaw Preschool for six years, and she enjoys being creative and learning with the children. In addition, she is an anesthesia technician at McKay Dee Hospital.

POLICIES

Registration:
Registration for Shaw Preschool should be done via mail or in person at Shaw Dance Studio/Preschool. The $50.00 registration should accompany pre-reservation in order for a spot to be held. This fee will cover all monthly statements, billing expenses, artwork, booklet, and supply fees for the preschooler throughout the school year. This fee is non-refundable. Preschool registration should include the initial pre-reservation form (included in this brochure) and the $50.00 registration fee.

Tuition:
Monthly tuition for preschool is due by the 15th of each month. If not paid by the 15th, a $10.00 late fee will be charged. A monthly statement will be sent home each month regarding the account status during approximately the third week of the month. Any unpaid accounts will be turned over to a collection agency. Should a special problem arise, please call Shaw Dance/Preschool and speak to Jana to make arrangements.

Tuition Discounts:
A $10.00 per month discount will be given for the preschooler who also enrolls in a dance class at Shaw Dance Studios. A $5.00 per month discount will be given to the second or more immediate family member enrolled in dance and/or preschool.

Illness:
Children who are sick should not attend preschool. Preschoolers with fevers, severe coughs, rashes, diarrhea, vomiting or colds should not come to school. In addition, students with lice, pinworms or other parasites should not attend preschool until the problem is completely cleared. If a student gets sick at preschool, we wil first contact the parent and then contact the second person on the emergency phone list. Parents should come and pick up their children immediately when sick.

Toilet Training:
Preschoolers at Shaw Dance must be potty trained and out of pull-ups, etc. Students must be able to wipe themselves and dress themselves after using the restroom.

Treats:
Shaw Preschool will provide treats or a daily snack, and if your child has special allergies, we must be informed ahead of time.

Birthdays:
We will attempt to celebrate each childs birthday on the preschool day nearest the childs actual birthday. For birthdays, we will send home a birthday bag in which the child can bring three special things about him/herself. Students may also bring treats, if desired, on their birthday.

Games & Toys:
Children should not bring toys from home.

Supplies:
Your child will need to bring a backpack each day to preschool and all backpacks, jackets, etc, should be labeled with the childs name. All other necessary school supplies will be provided.

Field Trips:
Students at Shaw Preschool will participate in approximately 2 field trips per year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Parents will need to drive their preschooler to each field trip, and more information will be sent before each field trip.

Programs:
Shaw Preschoolers will participate in a Christmas and a Spring Graduation program. No extra fees will be charged for these events, and more information will be sent before each program.

Communication:
We will send home monthly calendars as well as newsletters. Should parents have any questions or concerns, please call the studio and speak to the preschool teachers or Jana Shaw.
