POLICIES
REGISTRATION: To reserve a spot in a class, please call or E-mail the studio and leave the student’s name and desired class time. The studio E-mail is shawdance@comcast.net. (E-mail is most efficient.) Official registration and paperwork can be done on the first day of class or at the studio open house. Some classes require an audition or advanced registration. For most classes, class size will be limited. A registration fee of $30.00 per dancer will be charged for all students who sign up online for auto pay each month, or $40.00 for students who prefer to pay by cash, check or credit card in the studio office. This fee is charged annually. This fee will cover costs associated with billing, insurance, monthly communications, etc. The studio gift will also be included with this fee. TUITION: Tuition will be charged monthly, and is due by the 15th of each month. A $10.00 late fee will be charged for tuition not paid by the 15th. There is a $25.00 charge for all returned checks, and no class that is missed can be credited to the next month or subtracted from the monthly payment. If a class is missed for some reason, please call the studio in advance and a make-up lesson will be granted. A make-up lesson is attending a similar class at a different day and time. An optional automatic payment system is also available.
TEAM TUITION RATES: All team classes require additional expenses for competitions, costumes, etc.
DRESS CODE: For participation in all dance classes, it is required that hair be put up in a ponytail and pulled away from the face. With the exception of the hip hop classes, baggy shirts, sweats, pajama bottoms and street shoes are not accepted. All Shaw Dance students will be required to wear specific studio dance attire. This will ensure professionalism, will enhance learning, and will eliminate many clothing distractions. These can be purchased at the open house or from the studio office.
The first lesson of every other month will be set aside as parent observation day. This is the only day visitors will be allowed in class. Small children should be left at home on observation day. Competitive classes will not have an observation day.
These classes require an audition as well as previous experience. These involve extra commitment and dedication from both dancer and parent, in addition to extra practices, fees and some travel. In the summer, current and prospective team members should enroll in technique classes.
All students are offered the opportunity to participate in performances, yet they are not required. Performing is a great way to build self-esteem and confidence, and we feel it can be very beneficial to dancers of all ages and levels. Performing involves costumes and fees to be taken care of by the dancer’s family. Let your teacher know if you do not want to perform. Regular summer classes will not perform.
Most beginning students at Shaw Dance Studio start out in a Combination, Beginning Jazz, or Beginning Hip Hop. The next progression would be to specialize in jazz through our Danceline, formerly known as our Prepteam, and then Showteam. Many students study more than one dance discipline; for example, students taking both jazz and tumbling, ballet, or hip hop advance at a much faster rate and become much more versatile. |
